I Love My Daddy

This is a bit of a re-post of a "Monday Memories" post I did back in April. I just couldn't do anything else to top this for Father's Day. My daddy is 68 years old. He lives out in the country and loves the outdoors. He's not one to go out fishing and golfing. He just enjoys tinkering on things out around the old barn out beside the house. He always tills a garden in the Spring and plant things like tomatoes, squash, and watermelons.

My daddy was an over-the-road truck driver when I was living at home. Sometimes, he would be gone 2 weeks at a time. I guess this added to the closeness that he and I shared because our time together would be limited to the couple of days he would be home before he was called to go out again.

I was the youngest of 2 girls and a boy. My brother and sister were 7 and 9 years, respectively, older than me. Things I remember about my daddy are that I used to sit in the bathroom and watch him shave. It was just fascinating to me to watch him lather on the shaving cream and gently use the metal razor to carefully glide down his skin. Sometimes he would let me put on the shaving cream and just pretend. I also remember sitting right beside him in his recliner and watching television. We would watch things like "Wild Kingdom", "Lawrence Welk", and on Sunday nights a Disney movie would come on, because we only had 3 channels and choices were limited, but Disney night was my favorite night of all.

So, these are some of the childhood memories that stand out in my mind about my daddy. I hope he has a very happy Father's Day.

Me and my daddy in my younger years. Yes, I was a daddy's girl...still am. I love my daddy...and he still calls me "Little Girl." :)

A dad never feels worthy of the worship in a child's eyes.
He's never quite the hero his daughter thinks
and never quite the man his son believes him to be
..and this worries him

Dads are people that give daughters away to other men
who aren't nearly good enough
so they can have grandchildren
...who are smarter than anybody's

That's so precious!! You're a lucky lady ;-)

I wanted to be a Daddy's girl but it unfortunately took losing my Mom when I was 39 that my Dad finally engaged with his girls ... oh well. Better late than never ;-)

Enjoy!!

Thanks for a different perspective on daddies. I will definitely not take him for granted! I don't go visit my mom and dad as often as I should. They only live about 10 miles away. I do stay in touch via phone almost every day.
